Process and Products
SC Knits aim is to create lasting products with a purpose and if they were to be disposed, no harm or waste is to impact our environment. The process factors we have considered are listed below:
- SC Knits only uses sustainable, biodegradable materials in their products such as wool, linen and jute. Purchasing UK yarn and sourcing from local suppliers when they can, to
support local businesses and reduce transportation mileage and postage.
- Yarn is carefully dyed in batches through heat or solar dyed to reduce waste and leftover dye pigment is reused up to four times, until the water runs clear. Most of the dye Sam uses has been processed and created from chemical compounds which are harmful to us and the environment. Sam has begun to experiment with natural dyes and foraged dye material to replicate the brightness chemical dye can achieve.
- Off cuts and yarn scraps from finished products are either composted or used to create other products and packaging tags.
- SC Knits uses recycled gift packaging, boxes, shredded paper and recycled business cards
and swing tags. Pieces of yarn are also used as a ribbon alternative for gifting.
