Meet the Maker
Sam is the creator, designer and producer of everything SC Knits, a colourful lifestyle textile business based in Bristol, UK.
SC Knits was founded after Sam graduated university, upon completing a First Class BA Hons Surface Pattern Design degree.
Initially fascinated with machine knitting and textile manipulation, Sam created a small range of machine knitted hats, shibori scarves and basic macrame plant hangers using hand-dyed yarn. Pom pom
earrings were made as a product to recycle the waste yarn. These successfully sold online, which gave Sam the drive to develop small range of lifestyle products to also sell through stockists.
In 2024, Sam began volunteering for the Avon Wildlife Trust at their Grow Wilder site, as part
of the placement team for food growing and land management. It was here she re-discovered her love for natural dyeing and growing, with the aim to one day create her own wild natural dye garden of dreams.
Sam continues to experiment through colour, dye, material and product sampling, to develop a broader range of products for SC Knits. In 2025, she achieved her dream of growing natural dye plants from seed and continues to expand the garden and develop her own colour palette.
Alongside her own practice, Sam also teaches a range of creative workshops through SC Knits, introducing the community to different forms of craft. Workshop information available here.
In her spare time, Sam can be found pottering around her garden with her cat Paisley, exploring green spaces on foot and traveling and hiking the UK in her van.
